More Than Vibrations

It is a miserable February day. The drafty windows are letting in a full wind from outside, as my throat is becoming scratchier. The music starts, my eyes weigh heavy on the cover art – a boat with tall sails and masts floating on water. I am reminded of the rain hitting the roof and windows and suddenly it is in harmony with the sounds filling the room. The winds blow to the melody of the strings and the trees hit this old house as the drums intensify. My eyes still fixed on the black ink drawing of a boat, the music progresses and as the song climaxes, I realize that I have heard an interpretation of nature. This music wasn’t simply created from mind to song, but the interaction with sea-winds, and tidal waves, and hurricanes, and birds in flight, and breezes across meadows of tall grass have infiltrated the minds of its producers. The winter doldrums I began today in have made way for a glorious vision of a dark tempest in an elegant concert.
