Media sources are not perfect vistas into "reality" or its bastardized imaginary friend, the "news". It is all orchestrated and constructed. From the hidden assumptions cloaked within the sentence structures of the questions to the prefabricated answers given, hell, even the "interview" context is a permutation of what Foucault called the "Confessional". All of it, every goddamn pixel and sound byte is a ruse in the worse possible sense. Enter: humor. The joke here is that the entire article describes "music journalism" but when it comes time to perform it, the author (oh so clever in his self-awareness) refuses, or at least balks at the opportunity. It is an initial gesture towards transparency. I would love to apologize if it was too opaque, but I won't because you made me break my promise. Music journalism, much like this blog post, is overly self-aware that it is in fact MUSIC JOURNALISM. It's kinda like in Wayne's World when Wayne & Garth talk to the camera. There is also the type of music journalism that Aaron writes which is diametrically opposed to the above; it is completely oblivious to the fact that it is music journalism. (note: it is debatable whether or not this should be considered journalism).
