Procrastination, or, Dinosaur Feathers Playing O’Brien’s
Students were advised to speak to how specific foods could be used to adequately meet their food group goals (as recommended by MyPyramid). Instead of elimination of certain foods, complimentation and substitution were advised. For example, if I my recommended daily servings of grains was 10oz equivalents and I consumed 15oz equivalents but only half of my recommended servings of fruit I would comment that I could substitute some grains with fruit. Or when I eat grains, compliment them with fruit (as such).
Of course, the students often make recommendations based on specific foods that were mentioned in lecture (e.g. asparagus for folate, spinach with mandarin oranges for iron, removal of egg yolk to decrease dietary cholesterol) but they generally get understand the concepts. (I reserve judgment as to whether this is actually positive.)
I have quite a few of these to grade and an increasingly limited time to do so…
…and perhaps my time constraints should be making me rethink the time I’ve spent writing a post about grading the project, but I had to write about Dinosaur Feathers eventually.
