Saul Williams on Niggy Tardust
Wired’s Listeng Post has an interview with Saul Williams that touches on his thoughts on Niggy Tardust and his upcoming projects. Here’s an excerpt:
Wired.com: Do you think that the free-download phenomenon is ruining the industry? Or is it already doomed and heading the way of the dinosaurs?
Williams: I don’t think it’s contributing to the demise, I see it more as a transformation. We’re going through changes that are inevitable; the music industry is not immune to change. It’s like the auto industry, which is running on oil. Most people recognize the need for alternative fuels — it’s the same tactic. They’re both old school models that have to address the fact that that times have changed. More people are downloading iTunes and downloading legally than have in the past — that is a breath of fresh air for a lot of labels.
