Midwest Dilemma Playing Lily Pad Sunday, Go!
On Sunday Midwest Dilemma will be playing at the Lily Pad. You should go see them.
I was prepared to go into detail about their album, Timelines & Tragedies, but it felt inappropriate. Midwest Dilemma feels like a band that must not only be heard, but witnessed. That’s not to say their album cannot stand on its own – it can – but given the shear size of the band and weight of the music it’s something you want to be immersed in.
The band consists of at least ten members and upwards of twenty six. I can put on a pair of headphones and hear the tuba plod along and get excited when the timpani ascends in the background. But recordings don’t give you the same inexplicable joy when you witness and hear ten to twenty six musicians working creating in unison. And recordings don’t send the same chill up your spine that lyrics such as, “pick up the rifle and fight, followed by a quick snap and then roll on the snare would when witnessed and heard in person. The culmination of Timelines & Tragedies complete with hopeful, “La La La La,” are more magnificent live and the damp and shaky Omaha can’t reverberate your bones when you can feel the sound waves actually soak into your skin.
So go see Midwest Dilemma live because it would be a disservice to yourself to just listen to their album. (But do that too.)
