Lykke Li Played Paradise Last Night (10.23.08)

Lykke Li played Paradise last night and she did nothing to contradict anything I’ve written about her previously. She is an incredibly compelling performer. She moves without hesitation or self doubt, she commands attention on stage and she exudes energy.

However, given the amount of attention I’ve given to her over the past few months I’m suffering from a bit of Lykke Li fatigue. Luckily she provided several new reasons to like her. The reasons came in the form of covers. They were as follows:

  1. A Tribe Called Quest – Can I Kick It? (here)
  2. Wendy Rene – After Laughter (Comes Tears) (which she sang during her last tour)
  3. Vampire Weekend – Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa

She also offered up a fun sample of KRS-One’s Sound of da Police.

If you have not seen Lykke Li live, you should.

Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson (pictured below) offered up a fun cover of Bob Seger’s Night Moves. Robinson possesses a voice reminiscent of David Thomas’ which lent a nice touch to Night Moves.
