Spendin Days **Updated with Video**
During undergrad one of my roommates used to always convince me to go surfing before classes with him. We would get up at first light, forget to anticipate that his Jeep’s doors would be frozen shut and then stand in the cold for too long while he stabed at the ice with his keys. Eventually we’d make it up to Winthrop and enjoy as much time as possible in the frigid water.
The waves always seemed to come on days when I had a major project, paper, or test.
Today the ocean is flat, but I still have two exams to take - the first two of grad school. Listening to Japanese Motors’ makes me wish it weren’t and I didn’t.
There is a certain satisfaction in knowing that while your peers were worrying about hormone receptor down regulation and how breast feeding alters risk of later obesity you were in the ocean.
In fact, I always kind of hope they would catch a whiff of the stale, salty-rubbery odor created by neoprene and sea water. But that’s just me.
Japanese Motors - Spendin’ Days
Their debut is out now. They’ll be at Great Scott on October 26th opening for White Lies.

There is something about waking up way too early in the morning to catch the waves. Getting out of bed is a pain but once I’m in the water its heaven for me,
