Hold Steady Cancel Tour Dates Due To Kubler’s Pancreatitis
In lieu of the news that Hold Steady has canceled their UK tour dates in order to let guitarist Tad Kubler recuperate from acute pancreatitis and my desire to incorporate any nutrition into Enough Cowbell, I figured a mix is in order to expedite his recovery.
First, some details about acute pancreatitis…
Kubler can look forward to being NPO (nothing by mouth – no food, drink, etc.) for the first few days of treatment. Fluids may be given intravenously. After that clear liquids and a low fat diet may be introduced cautiously.
In other words, acute pancreatitis is no fun, but it’s probably is better than chronic pancreatitis which is caused primarily by chronic alcoholism. Of course, with alcoholism comes all other kinds of fun stuff like gastric and esophageal varices (think those thick spider veins older people have in their legs, but in your stomach and throat, and ready to pop and bleed so badly a tamponade – yes it is what it sounds like – is shoved down your throat to soak up and minimize blood loss).
Bummer.

Not so fun fact: Peter Laughner, of Rocket To The Tombs, Dead Boys (via influence) and Pere Ubu fame, died of acute pancreatitis when he was 24.
