Lactation
I was in ‘Nutrition Research for Disease Prevention’ class Wednesday morning. The main focus of the lecture was lactation and the research supporting breast feeding as a means to reducing risk of chronic disease later in life. A video (VHS - of course) was shown that highlighted what an expecting mother can anticipate in regards to breast feeding. The video was funded by Ross - who makes baby formula - so they entire procedure seemed a bit contrived.
Regardless of the (non) ethical nature of formula companies, about 2/3rds into the video the suspiciously calm narrator made us aware that ducks carry milk to the nipples. I drew a picture of the entire procedure.
Can you believe what they’re teaching in institutions of higher learning these days?
Unfortunately, I am unaware of any songs that depict the duck-mammary phenomenon that is lactation, but The Teddy Bear’s Picnic seemed somewhat appropriate. I guess my reasoning is such that if teddy bears were carrying the milk rather than ducks I’m sure everyone would be breastfeeding.
