Chris Cotton//The Big Sea
Chris Cotton has got a record slated for release a September 2nd release. Except, it’s already out on vinyl, iTunes, and if you send Mr. Cotton $15 he’ll send you a “prerelease” copy of the disc complete with his signature. So, by my estimations, the record is already out.
Plus, it’s on bit torrent and Mr. Cotton thinks that’s pretty keen.
I’m really happy to see that people are getting my music on bit torrent and I’m not being sarcastic about it either. I agree with Lefsetz insofar that the industry and enviroment has changed so rapidly and fundamentally that the whole idea of quashing traders for music is futile, self-aggrandising, and for someone like me, pointless. I really hope that as many people as possible can enjoy what I am trying to do here and spread the word.

Thanks for the heads up and the post on your blog. Um, I know it’s normal for an advocate of independent music to put out a message to one’s readers of ones publication of up-and-coming releases, or past releases for that matter but your astuteness in your observation of my pre-release schedule was indeed correct, and I was selling copies of my record, hand signed to anyone that wanted them prior to the release date. Why didn’t you just trash the record if you didn’t like my deceptive release schedule? Would a review of it helped create some sort of basis for the narrative?
Give it a fair review first sir, before you suggest foul play.

Mr. Cotton,
I was merely noting what you yourself have now said is correct - that the record was on sale already and thus describing it as “prerelease” did not make much sense.
A review of your music is irrelevant to the fact that the album was being described as a “prerelease,” when it had already been released. A negative or positive review would not change that fact.
I’m sorry you’ve taken offense at my non review but the post is actually a positive reflection on you and your embrace of the fans and new media.
Cheers,
Aaron
Sorry if I misunderstood your intent, thanks for clarifying. It was just unclear to me why those details seemed far more relevant to you than the substantive content of the album, the music, the artwork, etc…
Anyways, I appreciate the posting.

Mr. Cotton,
No worries. I provided both a track from the album and a video - both of which are probably more substantive than anything I could write about the record.
I believe it’s best to let people listen and decide for themselves.
Cheers,
Aaron
