Dan Deacon And Friends Prepare To Tour, Set To Play Boston First
Dan Deacon and all of his friends are about to let loose a serious amount of joy. Joy in the form of 29 Baltimore based artists over two nights in each of the 7 cities on the tour. Boston is up first.
But since Dan Deacon is Dan Deacon he has decided to set up a unique “round robin” format for the tour. Matt Solarski of Pitchfork does a fine job of explaining exactly how the festivities will be set up. He writes,
…at each gig, all of the night’s bands will set up their gear simultaneously “along the perimeter of the room, with the audience in the center.” Then the round robin part begins, as each band rolls through one song, then passes the spotlight to the next band with nary a moment’s break in between. By the end of it, in exchange for a sore neck, you’ll be intimately familiar with the musical goods Baltimore has to offer.
The concept is interesting especially coming from Deacon who has in the past allowed his fans to surround him. Now, he’s reversing the roles and having the artists surround the audience.
It’s definitely going to be mayhem and it may be extremely clunky and fall on its face, but it just might be absolutely amazing in a, you had to and should have been there sort of way. And seeing as how Boston is hosting the first two dates of the tour it should be even more unorganized than having 29 bands set up in a circle and taking turns playing assures it will be. In another words, there really is no reason not to go other than epilepsy.
