What I’ve Been Listening To: V. 1, P. 17
— Two tracks by The Replacements caught my eye this week - Love You Till Friday and Shutup. And although they’re technically about different subjects - Love You Till Friday being about loving and leaving someone after getting your kicks and Shutup being about people who kiss the band’s ass - their attitudes are complimentary.
— I’ve been devouring Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds this week along with his pre Seeds band, The Birthday Party.
— The Magic Wands’ Black Magic and Teenage Love in addition to the tracks on their myspace have me very excited to get my hands on their upcoming EP. Hopefully, Chris and Dexy will add some dates to their currently brief tour. Oh, and if you didn’t realize, they’re not dead and they may or may not be into fantasy. The rest of what I wrote is true, or something.
Watch their video for Black Magic here.
— You & Me is another fantastic effort put forth by the Walkmen. The Walkmen are odd in that at even at their best they’re clearly an amalgamation of all their influences. But even so they are able to create a sound that is uniquely their own.
Buy You & Me at Aime Street and donate $5 to the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
— Also, a bit of Ketman for a little local flavor and a sprinkling of Cage the Elephant and Chairlift because, why not?
