What I’ve Been Listening To: V. 1, P. 12

My listening habits have been pretty uneven this week so I’m finding it difficult to see a common theme in my choices. The new Girl Talk record Feed the Animals was just released so I had to listen.

I have mixed feelings about Girl Talk and although his schizophrenic style is full of surprises and good mash up choices he’s so enthused with stuffing his records that the opportunity to let a good hook develop is often overlooked. There are a ton of good samples (except for his sample of The Band’s The Weight which is sped up and awful) and choices and Feed the Animals is definitely worth a listen especially since it’s free.

Aside from Girl Talk the choices are more scattered. Beat Happening, the Replacements, Soltero, Delta Spirit, Sex Pistols, Eddie Vedder’s Into the Wild OST, and Middle Class Rut round out the list.

Of the other choices I think only the Sex Pistols are sampled in Feed the Animals - minute 2:28 of Play your Part (Pt. 1).
