What I’ve Been Listening To: Vol. 1, P.5
John Vanderslice – The Life and Death of the American Fourtracker (2002)
Even though I’ve gushed over John Vanderslice’s live act I never really was into his recordings. I like a track here and there, but struggled to really sit through his stuff. But this past week I’ve been thoroughly hooked on The Life and Death of the American Fourtracker probably in part because it features a lot of the songs he plays live. Buy.
Soltero – You’re No Dream (2008)
I just picked this one up Wednesday and I’ve already played it through a bunch of times. Some tracks are stronger than other, but overall it’s a strong album. Howard manages to find that perfect blend between genuine love, sarcasm, and proper narration. Buy.
Boris – Smile (2008)
As I mentioned before, Paper Thin Walls is streaming Smile in its entirety. I’m not pleased with the new mix of Statement, but on the whole the album is pretty good. Pre-Order.
Lykke Li – Little Bit EP (2008)
I finally got my hands on a copy of her Little Bit EP and then proceeded to play it’s four tracks endlessly. The (Peter) Bjorn (& John) influence is quite apparent on Everybody But Me and Time Flies, but Lykke successfully uses Bjorn’s influence to craft her own sound. Pre-Order.
