Fugazi – 13 Songs (1989)
13 Songs combines Fugazi’s S/T EP (1988) and their Margin Walker EP (1989). As individual EPs they are fantastic, but when combined – well, they’re just as fantastic.
The Black and White Years – The Black and White Years (2008)
The Black and White Years – Power to Change
Sometimes I want to believe that this album is a complete mess, but it’s not. Rather the debut album from Black and White Years is driven, sharp, and addictive. For more on what I think about the Black and White Years S/T LP click right…wait for it…here.
May 6 - Crash Mansion: NYC, NY
May 7 - The Church: Boston, Massachusetts**
May 8 - Spike Hill Brooklyn, New York
Langhorne Slim – Langhorne Slim (4/29/08)
Langhorne Slim – Rebel Side of Heaven
I have found it rather hard not to enjoy Langhorne Slim’s self titled LP – it’s an enjoyable record. Sure, the album is a bit uneven and when it falls flat it can be incredibly uninteresting. But, the band tends to stick to the more upbeat stuff throughout. The Rebel Side of Heaven and Hello Sunshine are definitely standouts. And even when the lyrics are a bit tacky Langhorne does a good job calling upon is cigarette burned rasp in order to give emotion to the somewhat lifeless lyrics.
Dark Meat – Universal Indian (2006)
The band (all 16 or so of them) calls themselves a punk bad, but they’re sound is more acid fried blues. Dark Meat’s song titles which range from Well Fuck You Then to Assholes For Eyeballs to There Is A Retard On Acid Holding A Hammer To Your Brain definitely uphold the punk spirit. Paper Thin Walls is streaming the album this week for free. Listen to the album in full here and then buy it here.
Universal Indian was originally released by Cloud Recordings and was reissued by Vice on April 8, 2008.
May 27 – TBA: Philadelphia, PA
May 28 – Music Hall of Williamsburg: Brooklyn, NYC
May 29 – TBA: Boston, MA**
