Listen To: Lipstik’s There is Only One Thing
Lipstik like to record lots of music. Everything is Good was released in 2006, the 4 song There is Only One Thing EP is available now, another EP, a singles collection (yawn), and two LPs. That’s a lot of music to put out in one year and to bet on it all being standout stuff is a bet I’m not willing to make. But, There is Only One Thing is a good start.
Each track is strong, but This Is The Sad Song We Wrote Together shines. Perhaps it’s the remorseful cello work along side lyrics of a lost bond juxtaposed with the overall hopeful mood of the piece allow it to be so effective. Perhaps, not, but Sad Song is almost a perfect little pop song.
The EP is strong and it’s also worth mentioning that the artwork contained within is notable – liner notes, lyrics, and tabs faded over classic American landscapes can be a striking image.
The release date on There is Only One Things seems to be a bit of a mystery. Lipstik’s cover of Tom Petty’s Yer So Bad has been released and the EP has been completed but no word on a set release date or style of distribution. Furthermore, no tour dates seem to be currently scheduled.
