Listen To: El Perro Del Mar’s From the Valley to the Stars

El Perro Del Mar’s From the Valley to the Stars has won me over. The happiness that had been instilled to Sarah Assbring has been passed along to me after close inspection of the album. At first listen I felt the album was not diverse enough to warrant a full 16 tracks* (and I still feel it does drag a bit), but sometimes a drone, simple horn or woodwind accompaniment and beautifully simple vocals and lyrics are just right. El Perro Del Mar’s From the Valley to the Stars is rather minimalist, but Assbring inserts a doo-wop inspired track, or guitar work just often enough to make it work.

In fact, I needed to hear my roommate instantly whistling the tune of Glory to the World in order to realize just how catchy and fun the album could be at times. As I said before, the album is simple, but sometimes the pleasures in life are. From the Valley to the Stars floats softly along and I have no doubts that the recent and increasingly pleasant weather has definitely influenced and increased my enjoyment of the record.

El Perro Del Mar’s From the Valley to the Stars will be released in the US on April 22nd by The Control Group. Buy.
