Cyanide Valentine has three sides and they’re all free
There is a spy museum in Washington DC right down the street from the Verizon Center. One of the exhibits shows different ways spies are supposed to off themselves if they were to be captured. One of the methods (the only one I remember) is cyanide capsules that are hidden into the spy’s spectacles. Pop off the end of the stems and send that little yellow and green beauty down your gullet – good night moon.
If I was 14, wanted to start a band, had just been dumped by my girlfriend, and was forced into a day at the spy museum with my family I would have named my band Cyanide Valentine. A name more steeped in emo tradition and appeal has never graced these ears.
But alas, this perfect emo name will go wasted as the name of a perfectly good band from Boston. The band lives far from emo and comfortably in calm distortions that you would swear were created in a Manchester City or London basement. Drones, hums, and gentle harmonies fill out CV’s 12 track LP: The Three Sides of Cyanide Valentine.
So, they’re not an emo band (bummer) and they’re good (even worse); what else could CV do to bug me? Oh…how about give away their album for free – zero dollars. If you want to download it go to the following link and not through www.cyanidevalentine.com because their splash page which rests bright red text on a royal blue background will make you want to cry (thank god) even if their music does not.
Cyanide Valentine will be at TT the Bears on Wednesday, March 7th. The show is $8 and although TTs is not known for its ability to facilitate subtle tones or distortions I’d say they deserve if for nothing more than that they gave you a pretty good album free of charge.
To recap: Cyanide Valentine with School of Language @ TT the Bears, 3/7 $8.
Cyanide Valentine – Neon Skyhustler
Cyanide Valentine – The Reprise
And if you’re a local and are looking to get out and into the ocean, or are a transplant, but have your 6-5, 6-4 suit, Brendan (of the band) is looking for some surf carpool buddies. Waking up at 4:45am for dawn patrol is always better than waking up at the same time for work. Contact him through the site or his myspace.
