Dawn Landes’ Fireproof out today

Dawn LandesFireproof LP releases today (March 4th). I was hoping for a bit more diversity throughout the disc after seeing the risks she took during her live set, (see: heavy distortion at times, French) but instead I’ll have to settle for well written and exquisitely performed pop songs – not bad. The exception to the rule is definitely Picture Show which absolutely shines even among the rest of the disc’s solid pop/bluegrass/country sound. In fact the whole second half of the album, starting with picture show, is very strong and a fine example of the potential that Landes possesses.

She closes the album with a gentle, yet assertive (because the song could be played in no other fashion) version of Tom Petty’s I Won’t Back Down. The album is strong throughout and definitely merits multiple listens. The variety may be lacking, but you really can’t go wrong with good pop songs and a voice as wonderful as Dawn’s.
